What happens if you die without a valid will?

The estate will devolve in accordance with the Intestate Succession Act. Now what does that mean? It means that the estate will devolve upon the surviving spouse or the surviving spouse and children of the deceased and grandchildren (where a child has predeceased the deceased leaving children). If there are no descendants the parents will inherit, and in their absence the brothers and sisters will inherit. This may cause hardship and inconvenience to your loved ones. It is in your best interest to get a valid last will and testament drafted immediately.
